Today there has been quite a bit of discussion about "gay marriage." To be honest, much of the chatter by those who call themselves Christians is bizarre. So many people claiming that the loving, "Christian" position is to condone gay marriage. Others say that it should be allowed as a matter of "equal protection under the law." Primarily this post is an answer to those who call themselves Christians. A Christian by the definition of the word is a follower of Christ, that is to say Jesus the Christ, the anointed. So what did Christ say about marriage?
There are those who said Jesus said nothing about homosexuals or homosexual marriage. But let us examine what Jesus said about marriage starting in the book of Matthew in chapter 19. The Pharisees came to Jesus asking a question about divorce for any cause as a trap to him. Instead of simply answering about divorce, Jesus gave us the very definition and nature of marriage, "Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female." in verse 3. Marriage is "from the beginning," was established by "he who created them," and is for "male and female." Marriage predates human government and is not under the rule of government. Marriage was created and established by Christ himself, the creator of all things (Col. 1:13-17). That is to say, God the Son created man, created woman for man, and created marriage for man and woman to be joined together in a social-sexual-companionship union. Marriage, by the definition of the one who created it, is heterosexual.
I understand these statements don't fit with things so many so-called "Christians" are saying. So many of these don't have any idea who Christ is, what he has taught, and what he requires of those who wish to follow him. People want to believe in this image of a cuddly-wuddly Jesus and not the image of the eternal judge and Lord of Hosts (that is the Commander of the Armies of the heavens) as he is described as in Revelation. An ecumenical picture, painted by those who want popularity and money, is sold to those who are ignorant of the scriptures or too lazy to study scriptures themselves. Harsh? Maybe people should figure out whose name they are claiming to wear. How insulting to the one who created man, woman, and marriage is it to claim there is a better way!
Walk the walk if you are going to talk the talk.
I saw a line come across twitter today too many times. Liberal or Libertarian, I don't care what you are. "Marriage isn't yours to define" is right, but not for the reason you think. God defined marriage when he established it, you have no right to hijack or redefine it for your political purposes.
I don't blog to make you happy, I blog to defend the truth.
